Dave Mathews Band In Concert
With Dave Matthews Band going on Concert soon, I thought I would put up a short clip from one of their earlier shows. If there is anyone who hasn’t heard of them, as unlikely as that is, this is a great chance to see these guys in concert. It isn’t just about Dave Matthews, they are all great talents.
Bon Jovi’s Setlist for the Circle Tour
While most people are happy to go to Bon Jovi’s newest concert without knowing what the set list is, for some people this is the deciding factor. Luckily for them there are others who are just as interested in what the future might bring, and while it is an inexact science you may be able to find someone who has studied his shows enough to tell you what you will probably see. Maybe this list will make you want to come to the concert, maybe it won’t.
The xx in San Francisco
San Francisco is a city that has a remarkable history for music, changing the shape of sound in the world’s musical consciousness. It’s a fabulous city to visit, where there are always wide varieties of entertainments to choose from, and one of those beautiful cities where it’s possible to wander all day and never seem to mind the passing of time. It has an unusual beauty that is both contemporary urban and also very timeless, inspiring artists and thinkers from all over the world.
It’s as evocative now as it’s ever been, and a night in San Francisco is always a treat, but visitors might be tempted to make travel plans for early June, when the London-based the xx plays in town. It’s a perfectly minimal name for a perfectly minimal band, and their sound is nothing less than haunting. Oddly, even though they’re far from here, their sound perfectly suits the early morning fog of the Bay, earning comparisons to another emo-electronic English group, Portishead.
This is three very young and very interesting musicians. Composed of Oliver, Romy, and Jaime, the xx picks up where the Cure left off. The music here is technically brilliant, sparse, dark, gothic, and deep, making for a kind of reluctant anthem for a reluctant time. If there’s any irony here, it’s buried it in the electronics, which provides for a sonic landscape that is immersive without being overwhelming, allowing space for the mind to wander.
They’re playing at the Great American Music Hall , which is a perfect setting, having seen the likes of the Grateful Dead and Duke Ellington, among many, many others. It’s been open since the turn of the 20th century, making it the longest continually-running nightclub in the city. It has a solid history, and the xx seems to be entering into the history of music with a remarkable beginning, and these waves are always more lovely when they’re caught at the start.
Saw Doctors in Boston
Boston has a tremendous history, and a rather scintillating present. There are multiple cultures making up the fabric of the city, providing a dizzying array of traditions and cultural forms every day. That’s one of the many reasons that Boston hotelst are famous for their hospitality, being accustomed to accommodating people from all over the planet.
Visiting Boston means seeing loads of historic places, providing educational entertainment for visitors of all ages. There are also fine museums displaying classical and contemporary art, as well as cutting edge local galleries showing the works of some of the hottest artists anywhere. There is also a fantastic theatre and dance scene, and local music is also pretty happening any night of the year.
Night culture in general is pretty lively here, and can certainly give visitors another view into the life of the city. This will be especially interesting at the cusp of the beginning of the summer, when the Saw Doctors play the House of Blues . This happens in May, when the weather might be starting to finally announce its turn in earnest, and the last vestiges of a long winter finally leave. That’s a brilliant time to see this brilliant band, and there might not be a better place to see it than Boston, with the large Irish-American population, and its long history of cultural innovations.
The phenomenon of cultural innovation among diasporic migrants has been studied far and wide, and in Boston it’s certainly an interesting evolution. So it becomes a kind of anthropological party to see musicians as fine as this bringing their own innovations to Irish music to the local audiences.
Of course, it’s certainly true that you don’t have to be Irish to appreciate the talents of the Saw Doctors . The band has been recording and performing for over 20 years now, and still maintains a hardcore indie fan base, and they come from all over the world. They’ve been compared to the Grateful Dead, in fact, for the loyalty of the fans, and to Bruce Springsteen for their ability to rouse crowds with high energy at impossible durations. It’s something not to miss.
Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus Are Back

Matching Orange Approaching Bethesda

There are plenty of things to do in Bethesda, for visitors as well as for the residents. The old-fashioned charm of a city that once held a blacksmith shop, a post office, and a few houses, is now one of the most affluent places in the country, and ranks very highly for livability. It also offers all the benefits of being seated close to DC without having to bear the fast pace of urban life there. For these reasons and plenty more, visitors and residents are in for a treat this May when Glen Orange plays in Glen Echo .
This traditional Celtic band offers their traditional served with a generous portion of innovation and experimentation. Based in New Hampshire and Massachusetts, they’ve been earning themselves a solid place in the world of music as one of the finest that the East Coast has to offer. In a region that’s fairly protective, and also very savvy, about what constitutes traditional music, this is a pretty big feat. It’s also a region where strong intellectual tradition guides the sentiments, and any kind of experimentation needs to meet certain standards from the musical elite. Matching Orange is well-positioned to fit the bill in all of these criteria, and the really good thing about the band is that they also happen to be pretty amazing performers.
It’s something that cuts across all levels, then, so that audiences who have either a traditional or an experimental bent can enjoy themselves in spite of themselves, while those who simply love good music can enter into the spirit of things with the abandon matched by the band’s own enthusiasm. This is plain old-fashioned fiddle music, only there’s nothing plain about it. Joined by mandolin and piano, there are traces of jazz and classical in the riffs, making music that’s perfect for universities, contra dances, and pubs. It’s something that will be exciting for the locals, and the travelers will have one more reason to explore the life of the cites that lie outside the lavish hotels , and get in touch with something old and new at the same time.
