Muse Coming to Amsterdam

For music lovers, there are few places in the world that have the same appeal as Amsterdam. It’s a city that’s unlike any other, really, because it’s progressive attitudes and funky local scenes invite a kind of rock and roll aesthetic that finds a fairly stable home in this uncertain place. It’s lovely, however, as funky as it might be, and the uncertainty is only due to the musings that are inspired by a rich cultural scene, and this makes it a pretty perfect place for a band like Muse .

They’re coming to town, well, nearly, to Nijmegen, later in June, as part of a world tour that’s been an astounding success. With each date, the band is getting better and better, and they’ve had some pretty remarkable moments on stage. Seeing them here will be a very high water mark, because the atmosphere in the Netherlands is one that helps to encompass the band’s progressive rock stylings, and it always seems as though the scene is about to break through to something that no one had thought of before.

A perfect summer adventure just might include a stay at a local hotel , enjoying the Amsterdam scene for a few days before making the hour trek to see the show. It’s a perfect warm-up in an international setting that’s ripe for experiment and opportunity to enjoy conversations in real and imaginary time.

The Goffertpark show will feature Ghinzu as an opening act, which is just one more good reason to go. It’s been an amazing year for the band. Piggybacking on all their previous success with a new album in 2009, released under their own production label, few expected that the new tunes would eclipse their previous sales, but it has, and this is the time to see the band, because if this isn’t a peak, then next year will offer another chance, and a reason for everyone to return.
